Double Mead rates the one to beat but we're going to take her on with Lord Alfred. The selection failed to make much of an impression in eleven starts for Mouse Morris but he has joined a shrewd operator who is capable of getting the best out of him. He starts his handicapping career on a fair mark, has been in winning form between the flags and looks worth chancing. Double Mead's penalty is offset in part by her rider's claim and she won very easily at Fontwell last time. This is a marked step up in trip and, although she should stay, this isn't straightforward under her big weight. Patxaran makes his chase debut on an interesting mark having run out a ready winner of a selling hurdle last time and is one to monitor for support but his lack of chasing experience means that we pass him over. Sam Cruise is well worth a second look, Burn Brook has won her last two starts in points but it's not easy to make a case for many in this heat so we're content to side with Lord Alfred.
