      Verdict

      This is a decent little nursery and DENZILLE LANE can gain due reward for a couple of smart performances in better company. Far from disgraced in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot, Mark Johnston's colt stepped up in trip at York and was only headed in the shadow of the post. The handicapper's decision to put him up for that near miss seems a little spiteful but the colt can make his class count. The assessor has to take a guess with regard to the value of Punk Rocker's win at Doncaster. Michael Dods' colt ran particularly green on that occasion so the market will tell us if an official rating of 74 is fair or not. Richard Fahey has three entries and Vimy Ridge looked useful when recording a victory at Musselburgh over 5f. He didn't help himself on his most recent outing at Newcastle by hanging left though Jack Garritty's 5lb claim should make him competitive.
