chased leader, led over 2f out, headed inside final furlong, kept on, no chance with winner
tracked leaders, quickened to lead inside final furlong, readily
held up in touch, effort over 1f out, driven and weakened inside final furlong
This is a tricky affair despite the small field, and the locally trained Wi Dud may have enough speed to cope with Hitchens and Knot in Wood. Knot in Wood is trying to make the transition from handicapper to Listed performer, and he runs here after turning out at Newmarket on Thursday,. He is a durable type so the quick turn out will not be a problem, but he does prefer some cut in the ground and may be tapped for toe. Hitchens took a Windsor handicap on fast ground last year, but was unable to step up on that subsequently. He may just be found wanting at the weights. Wi Dud has always been in high regard by his trainer, and he was a close second in a Group Three at Newbury on his penultimate run. That form looks good enough here, and Wi Dud can take this.
