    In depth

    Verdict

There was plenty to like about the way Davorin did his job at Newmarket on debut and he can follow up in this potentially trappy contest, with Major Effort and Alekhine seen as the main dangers. David Loder's colt looked like he would benefit from the run at headquarters, but was still straight enough to stay on well and beat Mission Man. This extra furlong and better ground will suit and he can continue his good start with another success. Major Effort should not be too far away judged on his one-and-a-half length second to Bishop Of Cashel at Chester when last seen out in September. The step up in trip should help too, and with his yard among the winners this week he should go very well. Alekhine will be more at home back in this company after running no sort of race when well beaten at Doncaster in November. He is better judged on a decent debut win at Town Moor, and back on fast ground he will be a different proposition, and he should be involved at the business end. Even so, Davorin looks the type to improve and he is taken to maintain his upward curve.
