This is a highly competitive handicap, where the runners are thoroughly exposed. Straight Face, and Kingsmaite finished behind Ace of Spies at Newcastle recently and they re-oppose here, with KINGSMAITE taken to score. Ace of Spies lost his maiden tag at the 21st attempt on that occasion, getting up in the final strides over a furlong shorter trip. He was not winning out of turn, having been placed on his two previous starts, though his win came after slipping down the weights and a 7lb hike may be prohibitive. Four time winner on the all-weather, Straight Face won for the first time on Turf when landing a claimer at Newcastle last time. He was second in his stands side group when finishing over 12 lengths behind Ace of Spies earlier, but on 8lbs better terms he can get closer here, though his outside draw is a hindrance. Kingsmaite won at Southwell in January off a 5lb higher mark, and he is well treated here. 7lbs better off for a three and a half length beating by Ace of Spies last time, and given a handy draw towards the inside on this sharp track, Kingsmaite can come out on top.
