Not as competitive as the 16 runners might first suggest here, and Jonjo O'Neill may have found a good opportunity for New Time to follow up his recent Towcester success, with Quintus, Mrs Philip, Island Warrior and Suchwot others to consider. The selection will be very much at home on this faster surface, and showed he had the stomach for a battle when staying on well up the Towcester hill last time. With improvement anticipated, he can follow up here. Quintus would appear to be his biggest danger. Alan King's gelding was flattered by just a five length defeat at Exeter last time, though having said that he did run well for a long way. His record suggests he does take a few races to reach full fitness, so we expect him to put up a better showing here. Mrs Philip is a course and distance winner on this sort of ground and so cannot be discounted, though she is due a 2lb drop soon and may have to wait for that before she wins again. Island Warrior has gone up 10lb for a fast ground Exeter win last time, and will find it tougher to give Suchwot, whom he beat that day, an extra 6lbs this time, so the Pipe horse can reverse that form. But New Time has scope for improvement and can take this prize.
