made all, jumped left throughout, quickened on bit after 3 out, unchallenged
chased leader, ridden 3 out, soon beaten
held up last, lost touch and hung left approaching 5th, tailed off
held up mid-division, hit 3rd, ridden and lost touch 6th, soon behind
held up towards rear, pulled hard and headway after 4th, ridden and lost touch with winner after 3 out, hit 2 out and last one pace
Possibly the worst race yours truly has ever had the misfortune to assess, and on the face of it it looks improbable that any of them are good enough to win. However, we must make a selection, and we will take the Martin Pipe-trained Oasis Blue to succeed. That may seems ludicrous after four successive defeats totalling 172 lengths, but we all know that the maestro can work magic and at this, his local track, he may just have sniffed the opportunity for an easy win with nothing much to beat. The ground will suit, though no one except perhaps Pipe himself is sure what is this gelding's best trip. The others all look dire, and Cappanrush may be the one for the forecast, as he has course experience on this sort of ground, when he ran with some credit. But in a dire contest, we'll side with Oasis Blue.
