Lord Alfred is preferred to Commemoration Day and Kilcrea Asla. The selection didn't achieve a great deal in his first spell under Rules in Ireland but he won a few races between the flags and appeared to be a different proposition on debut for this yard at Uttoxeter. He's got a little to find at the weights and is down in trip but there should be more to come from him and he can follow up. Commemoration Day readily accounted for Pilca at Towcester and is the highest rated horse in the race by virtue of a 9lb rise for that success but that may flatter him. He has been held from lower marks in handicaps in the past so this looks to be the sensible route to take with him. Kilcrea Asla may not have had a great deal to beat last time but he's only had three starts over fences and remains open to improvement. Dusty Dane may find this a shade competitive but it would be folly to rule out the unexposed Olmeto Collonges who is a half-brother to Neptune Collonges and could benefit from the fitting of a tongue tie. Lord Alfred has less to prove though and is preferred.
