RUN FREE is a course and distance winner, and can land division one of this lowly handicap, but Very Well Red and Kingsmaite are also worthy of making our shortlist. Quite a few of these have won over course and or distance; the selection ticked both boxes ten days ago when making all to win a similar contest. That's his only success in 23 outings, but was backed from 16-1 into 6-1 and justified that support. Very Well Red was second here ten days ago in division two of that handicap. His five career wins have all been over slightly further, but as he showed last time out, he can be competitive over this trip. He's got the benefit of being drawn in stall one, if he can break out sharply to hold that position. Kingsmaite, one of the veterans in this race, is towards the top of the weights and hasn't come close to landing a blow in recent times, but he's won here plenty of times in the past, albeit over shorter and longer trips. Capped For Victory's an interesting looking runner for Alan Swinbank. Lightly raced for a 7 year old with this just her 14th outing. It's her all-weather debut, and first run since May. Any market support should be noted. It's a competitive, albeit low grade opener, with preference for Run Free.
