Makarim is the pick over Lennel, with String Serenade, True and Bongoali just a few more to note. Another wide-open banded contest does not make things easy for punters, and only a modest vote goes the way of Makarim, a past course-and distance winner who was placed on a number of occasions earlier this year. His most recent effort saw him put in his place by Eforetta here in May, but in the hope that he turns up refreshed by the break, he may have enough stamina to outlast his rivals today. Lennel has yet to score on the fibresand, and in fact has not won since January 2005, but recent efforts have at least been encouraging, while String Serenade's only success on the Flat was in a 10-furlong seller. True has to give weight away all round, and Bongoali needs to step up on a claiming win gained here last October. Red River Rebel would be a big danger on form of old but not on recent evidence, and all in all, in a race in which bets are best kept to the absolute minimum, it is Makarim that is the pick.
