        Verdict

        Veneer has decent claims and is the pick over Spy Gun, Tommytyler and Kirkhammerton. Veneer is not in the same form as he was 12 months ago, but has dropped to a very favourable mark, being over 20lb lower in the ratings. There has been cause for encouragement on his last two visits here, the latest just six days ago when third to Shrine Mountain. He is taken to get back to winning ways at the expense of Spy Gun who has been very consistent in defeat but whose effort always seems to peter out when it matters most. Tommytyler normally finds one too good as well, but it would be no surprise if he were placed at least, while Kirkhammerton is not sure to be suited by the drop back in trip today. Veneer can make the most of his current mark.
