The admirable Crusoe and Mister Elegant are respected, but a chance is taken with Pending, who has a fair opportunity to make an immediate return on the ¿6,000 his current owners shelled out for him after he finished second in a claimer at Wolverhampton last month. Pending has a good place-record on the all weather but is long overdue a first success in this sphere of racing. The trip is ideal for him and he looks a worthy candidate to sparkle if the fitting of an eye-shield works the oracle. Mister Elegant is holding his form well enough to suggest that he can again go close. He is better suited to Southwell than either of the other artificial surfaces, so a bold bid can be expected from him. As is the case with Crusoe, who is already a six-time winner at this track. However, he picks up a 6lb penalty for winning a Banded contest at the end of last month and will have to work much harder in this slightly better grade. Therefore, we turn to Pending, who rates as a good value option on his first start for Jim Boyle. The Epsom-based trainer has been in good form over the last fortnight and has an excellent chance of landing his third consecutive winner at this track if Pending is revitalised by the headgear today.
