TRI CHARA is coming back to form gradually and can land this at the chief expense of Mackintosh and Megalo Maniac in a race that could provide a fine finish. Reg Hollinshead's charge acts well here and seven furlongs is very much his trip, as is shown by the fact two of his three wins have come over course and distance. The last of those victories came off a mark of 64 so he's now almost a stone lower and it appears an act of generosity from the handicapper to have dropped him a further pound following a solid third last time. Russ Kennemore has won on the horse and with his claim to help further he gets the tentative vote. Mackintosh has been a tad unfortunate of late and that's added to by the fact his mark has climbed in defeat but this drop to seven furlongs could help him improve a tad; he's had 14 tries without success and deserves a change of fortune. Megalo Maniac represents a yard that can do nothing wrong and present and must have claims having shaped as though this step up in trip would see him go close but his odds are likely to reflect these factors and with that in mind we'll look elsewhere in a competitive race. Positivity bounced back from a shocking effort to take a hand in the finish last time and must have claims but her two wins have been over further and she may not have the pace to carry this weight to victory, Mr Chocolate Drop is down to a mark that he's won off here before but that was in 2007, whilst Luisa Tetrazzini hasn't yet convinced us she acts on the surface. Louisiade is an admirable type but struggles to win these days, Manana Manana ran poorly last time and is best watched and Amber Moon has spurned easier chances than this. In what may prove a competitive opener we'll take Tri Chara to come out on top.
