PILCA hasn't always been consistent and hasn't put together back to back wins since his early hurdling days in France, but we think that can change here, with him getting the nod ahead of Toulouse Express and Nile Moon. He defied top weight status to win a novices handicap last time out over this trip, which is what trainer Malcolm Jefferson rates as his optimum distance. He usually travels and jumps well, and a repeat of that last effort which came at Perth could be enough to land this. Oniz Tiptoes may be carrying too much weight considering his modest form. Toulouse Express was pulled up last time out after previously winning an inferior race to this. Again, he's not the most consistent. Nile Moon, joint top weight with Oniz Tiptoes, drops down in trip after running regularly over 3 miles, including when winning twice at Kelso in April. Fourth in the Perth Gold Cup last time out, the tongue tie and blinkers are off today, and he's expected to be ridden prominently as that's brought past success. Our preference though is for Pilca.
