Although a beaten favourite last time, Monte Alto can put that to rights here and take this mile handicap, with Gyroscope, Laa Rayb and Grand Vizier others on the short list. The selection steps up from 7f here and that should be the key to his success. A couple of pleasing maidens as a juvenile were followed up by a comfortable Lingfield success on debut this time. His recent defeat was still a decent effort and if he stays on as strongly up the hill here then he can score. Gyroscope is already a winner at the trip, having done so on his seasonal bow. He was beaten at Newbury last time where the drop back in trip and softer ground may have been to blame, so he is respected here. Laa Rayb was a debut mile winner on fibresand last year and probably needed his recent run here to get him straight. The step back up is a plus and he can go close. Of the others, Grand Vizier drops back in trip and will need every yard of this to make it into more of a stamina test, but we prefer Monte Alto to get it right this time.
