It was a soft race that Trinculo won at Newcastle at the beginning of the month and the David Nicholls-trained gelding looks worth taking on here with preference for Red Sovereign, who gets the vote ahead of Seven No Trumps. The last mentioned has solid claims at the weights but would prefer a softer surface to show his best form and may be best watched for the moment. Bill Turner's Princely Vale is not without a chance at the weights but faces no easy task against his older rivals; a comment that also applies to Saucepot. Tag Team is capable but inconsistent and of more interest is Trinculo, although the form of his latest success probably does not amount to a great deal with the favourite there running no sort of race and the rest of the field looking distinctly moderate. The vote then goes to Red Sovereign, who is well treated at the weights, has trip and ground conditions to suit and a reproduction of the pick of his recent form would be good enough to land this.
