In depth

Verdict

Montzando has shown enough in two starts so far to suggest that he will be good enough to take this and is taken to do so at the main expense of Brandywell Boy and Walklikeanegyptian. The last mentioned showed promise on her debut over course and distance last month before weakening inside the final furlong and should have learned a great deal from that experience. The daughter of Danehill certainly rates a bigger danger than stablemate Zavone, who makes his debut here, as Richard Hannon's two-year-olds have tended to need their first run of the season this year. Jeremy Noseda's Zafarilla was very disappointing on her Bath debut and is surely better than she showed on that occasion, while a market move for David Flood's Boy Dancer would be of interest on his first start in public. Brandywell Boy made an encouraging start to his career at Newmarket last month and has to be respected but preference is for Montzando, who has run to a similar level of form on both starts and a reproduction of either effort should suffice.
