Verdict

Frankie Dettori prefers Rosencrans over Catstar of the two Godolphin runners but neither look good enough to get the better of Peak To Creek, who gets the vote. The selection was well held by Haafhd on his return in the Craven but ran better when finding just Fokine too good in a Listed race over this trip back at Newmarket subsequently. A reproduction of the form shown that day may suffice. Hugh Morrison's Pastoral Pursuits was a progressive performer last term but may struggle to concede weight on his return to action after a lay off. Rosencrans has yet to show he handles turf as all of his form is on dirt and a bigger threat may come from stablemate Catstar, who won the UAE 1,000 Guineas when last seen and makes her first start in this country for Saeed Bin Suroor having been trained as a two-year-old by David Loder. Jack Sullivan and Sgt Pepper look to be out of their depth, while John Gosden's Madid is stepped up in class and needs to improve dramatically to win this. An interesting contest then but Peak To Creek showed enough last time to suggest that he should take all the beating.
