Verdict
Those towards the head of the race-card stand head and shoulders above their rivals here. Desert Dreamer is selected to land it for the Tom Dascombe yard who do very well with this type of animal. The selection is not the most straight-forward but is evidently too high in the ratings to get competitive in handicaps. Six furlongs is on the sharp side for him but when one takes into account the grade, his ability should see him overcome that concern. Last time at Folkestone he patently did not want to know about his job when hanging quite badly but a late flourish over 6 will not give him much time to think about the job on hand. Age appears to be catching up with Landucci who no longer possess the turn of foot he once had and he drops down to six furlongs for the first time in over three years. A wide draw is also far from ideal. High Plains should some promise in back end maidens last season and unlike many has youth on his side. It does not appear as if he has progressed from his juvenile days although he does have plenty of early toe which gives his rider the opportunity to overcome a high draw. Bartercard hails from a shrewd yard and he tackles this grade for the first time. On picks of his form he would have a big chance and if support arrives for Bartercard, it would be foolish not to take it into account. Desert Dreamer gets the vote to land the claimer.
