GEORGE WILLIAM (NAP) probably recorded a career-best when third behind stable companion Tabarrak in a Listed race at Newbury last month. Under the conditions of this contest, he only has to give a couple of pounds to the three-year-olds but Global Applause will be a danger if he’s benefited from a belated reappearance at Doncaster. He had some smart form as a juvenile, though this will be his first try beyond 6f on going that will be much softer than ideal. Black Bess won over the trip on soft going at Sandown in August but needs to bounce back from a poor run last time, though still makes more appeal than Summer Icon and Repton.
George William 33-1 (9-2) Chased leaders, ridden and unable to quicken 2f out, kept on again inside final furlong, went 3rd post, 3rd of 11, 1 1/4l behind Tabarrak (9-5) at Newbury 7f lst stks (1) gd in Sep.
Global Applause 5-1 (8-12) Tracked leaders in 3rd, ridden over 1f out, kept on same pace, 3rd of 4, 5 3/4l behind Gifted Master (9-2) at Doncaster 6f stks (3) gd in Aug.
Repton (IRE) 33-1 (8-6) Raced centre, in touch, pushed along over 2f out, weakened final furlong, 10th of 13, 4 1/4l behind Nobly Born (8-12) at Ascot 6f hcp (2) gs in Oct.
Black Bess 8-1 (9-7) Prominent, lost place over 2f out, eased final furlong, 6th of 9, 23 1/2l behind Amabilis (9-5) at Ascot 1m hcp fll (2) gs in Sep.
Summer Icon 33-1 (9-0) Held up towards rear, headway over 2f out, kept on same pace, 5th of 11, 4 1/2l behind Zwayyan (9-3) at Ascot 1m stks (3) gs in Oct.
