Andrew Balding's Star Pupil is speedily bred on the dam's side and may do better now that he is dropped to sprint trips for handicap debut, especially off his light weight but it may pay to go to the other end of the handicap for the winner and a chance is taken with Oro Verde, who is preferred to Taruskin. The last mentioned has a 3lb penalty for winning a poor race at Brighton last week and should find this more exacting. Toby Balding's King's Caprice and the Henry Candy-trained Spliff both have claims, if fit enough for their seasonal reappearance, while both Mick Channon's Compton's Eleven and Rod Millman's Bathwick Bill are entitled to improve. The vote though goes to Oro Verde. Richard Hannon's colt failed to trouble the judge in three starts on the Polytrack during the winter and has been freshened up since then. The son of Compton Place is still feasibly well treated on the pick of his form and is taken to make his class tell.
