In depth

Verdict

Plenty of UK interest in this. Johnny Barnes and Master Apprentice have been set a stiff task on the face of it having both won in much lesser company last time and Burnt Sugar is preferred on his length defeat in the Group 1 Lagardere at Longchamp on Arc day. He finished behind the subsequently disqualified Gleneagles on that occasion and the latter had just got the better of VERT DE GRECE at the Curragh before that. That brings Roger Varian's new inmate into the equation and he gets the nod ahead of the leading home challengers and Group 3 winners Alea Iacta and Cherek.
