It can pay to have one drawn on each side running for you in these big sprint handicaps; with Fonthill Road and Machinist forwarded for a split stakes approach, while Excusez Moi and Fantasy Believer are others that can go well for each-way backers. Fantasy Believer has come good of late and is a tough individual on his day. The eight-year-old holds sway over his stablemate Zomerlust as John Quinn's best hope and a bold bid is anticipated. However, he has run unplaced in two previous renewals and needs everything to drop right for him on this occasion. Excusez Moi looks a much better horse over sprint distances and represents value at the likely odds. He ran a blinder when fourth in the Stewards Cup and a repeat effort would make him a major player today. Ice Planet and Desert Commander are others worth a mention, as both have the ability to make the rest aware of their presence. However, the former is a luckless individual that has a tendency to find all sorts of trouble in his races, while Desert Commander was a big disappointment last time and now has a bit to prove. Obe Bold has dropped to an attractive mark and is also worth noting in running. He will be interesting if turning out at York next week. However, Fonthill Road and Machinist make a touch more appeal on this occasion and they form a our two-pronged attack on this valuable prize. Fonthill Road has only been seen twice since finishing second in last year's Ayr Gold Cup and looks an ideal type for races of this nature at this time of year. Richard Fahey has the same race as the target this time around and, having reported the gelding to be in rude health, a bold bid looks assured. Machinist - a worthy winner at Ascot last time - is a prime candidate amongst the low numbers and can emerge as the principle player from David Nicholls' quintet of acceptors. Joe Fanning exuded confidence in the saddle when the partnership landed the Jockey Club Sprint Stakes 20 days ago and, with that run fresh in the mind, Machinist is brought in alongside Fonthill Road to give us one to cheer along from both sides of the course.
