Verdict

A race that should not take a great deal of winning can go to handicap debutant BEST OF BROADWAY, while Lady Pacha and Escape Artist could be the ones to chase him home. The selection is saddled by David Lanigan, who has a 33 per cent strike rate with his three-year-olds at this venue. His gelding steps up in trip for the third time in succession today, having been tried over a mile, 10f and 1m 4f in his three runs to date, and those efforts have seen him rated 55 by the assessor. That is nothing for a horse with any ability, and with enough stamina in the pedigree and blinkers on for the first time he can strike. Lady Pacha was well beaten on her own handicap debut last time at Hamilton but handles these conditions well. She is not certain to get home over this far, but is worth a try, and a first-time visor may also have a positive effect. Escape Artist is another handicap newcomer for in-form Tim Easterby. He was tried three times over 7f as a juvenile but this is a huge step up in trip and it may well suit him. The fast ground shouldn't be a problem and support for him is likely to be significant. Swain's Quest, Dubara Reef and Rosewood Lad are not forlorn hopes, though Best Of Broadway gets the vote.
