In depth

Verdict

A weak event and this looks a good opportunity for Celtic Sapphire to open her account while Cantrip and Compton Eclaire rate the only serious dangers. Tim Easterby's filly has proved one-paced in maidens over inadequate trips but did show some potential when a staying-on third on her handicap debut over 11 furlongs at Carlisle on her penultimate start. The step up in trip will suit the daughter of Celtic Swing and she can now race off a 5lb lower mark so looks to have plenty in her favour. Cantrip is far from easy to predict and was well below her best last time but has claims on her previous placed effort at Pontefract and shouldn't be discounted off a fair mark. Compton Eclaire showed improvement for the combination of first-time blinkers and a step up in trip when a close runner-up on the Polytrack at Lingfield in early July. However, Gerard Butler's filly hasn't been seen since so may just need the outing and Celtic Sapphire looks the one to beat.
