In depth

Verdict

ALBA DE TORMES made all at Newcastle on his handicap debut. He can effectively race off a lower mark here with an apprentice’s allowance taken into account and can confirm superiority with both Vindobala and We Still Believe. The latter also won at Newcastle earlier while Bear Me In Mind floundered in heavy going at Newmarket in October but included a course and distance success in an earlier double. Desert Cat and Isla Vista have both placed in handicaps and the former has switched yards while Brazen Bow and Dr T J Eckleburg are preferred of those handicapping for the first time.
