Verdict

An interesting finale though it’s difficult to make a case for Gingerbreadman and Dream of Honour has become very disappointing. However, the latter did finish ahead of the equally-frustrating Qutob at York in October and could easily pop up in a race like this. After John has placed in both start and came up against a smart filly last time at Newbury but TEXTING gets a tentative vote given she just came up short over track and trip last month when meeting with slight interference.

Formwatch

The Gingerbreadman 14-1 (8-8) Stated very slowly, outpaced in rear, kept on final furlong, never nearer, 5th of 13, 5 1/4l behind Space War (8-9) at Southwell 6f hcp (6) pol in May.

After John 6-1 (9-2) Chased leaders, went 2nd final furlong, no chance with winner, 2nd of 12, 7l behind Jubiloso (9-3) at Newbury 7f stks (4) gd in May.

Dream of Honour (IRE) 7-1 (9-2) Prominent, ridden over 2f out, weakened inside final furlong, 5th of 11, 12 1/2l behind Destination (9-2) at Wetherby 7f stks (5) gs in May.

Qutob (IRE) 6-5fav (9-5) Carried badly left start, raced keenly, soon tracked leaders, went 2nd over 1f out, ran on under pressure inside final furlong, always just held, 2nd of 5, nk behind Dominus (9-5) at Goodwood 7f stks (4) gd in May.

Texting 10-3 (8-11) In touch, headway 2f out, switched to outer over 1f out, ridden to lead inside final furlong, headed final strides, 2nd of 14, shd behind Melrose Way (8-11) at Pontefract 6f fll stks (5) gf in Apr.
