    Verdict

Spiekeroog, Longboat Key and Shemoli make the shortlist here, with SPIEKEROOG taken to step up on a promising debut and take this intriguing contest. Longboat Key was tried over a longer trip last time, and almost sprang a surprise, only to be run out of it in the closing stages having hit the front. He enjoyed the fast ground that day and this stiff mile and a half will suit him. Shemoli showed real ability at Doncaster two outings ago, travelling well for much of the contest, and only edged out close home. However, he looked very one paced when disappointing at Thirsk a month ago and is opposed. Henry Cecil had a winner at Leicester on Thursday night with a runner who had a similar profile to Spiekeroog. The selection stayed on to good effect at Sandown on his debut, but ran out of time, finishing a good second. This extra quarter mile looks bound to suit, and Spiekeroog gets the vote.
