In depth

Verdict

The veteran THEWHIRLINGDERVISH is put forward to land this staying handicap despite the fact he does not look to be the force of old; Kiribati King and Moonshine Beach look the biggest threats to the selection. Thewhirlingdervish quite possibly has found lively ground conditions not favouring him of late while the sharp nature of Chester meant things were happening that bit too quick for him last time. He has not raced from a mark this low since June 2007 and as a consequence is now looking well treated. Kiribati King relishes a battle as seen at Warwick last time, where he was driven over half a mile from home but when asked to dig deep, he found reserves to out stay his rivals. A similar display was required at Haydock before that but the worry would be that this may not be a sufficient test of stamina for him. Moonshine Beach is edging back up the weights as a result of his consistency while Inchpast has been competing in better races than this but looks as though he needs some respite from the assessor. Irish Quest and Tribe are others to consider but Thewhirlingdervish is given the vote.
