In depth

Verdict

Lancier d'Estruval, English Jim and Penny's Crown are three against the field in a tough race to call for punters and the narrow vote is given to Lancier d'Estruval. The selection dead-heated with Ockley Flyer last time out. That form has since been franked and although he has a penalty for that win, the drop in trip looks sure to suit and he looks a value call. English Jim rates the main danger on his best form as he looks on a handy mark, but the suspicion is he may just need the run after a 223-day absence. Penny's Crown is another that could go well but all her best form has come on softer ground and she looks opposable with this in mind. Lawood has shown a modicum of ability in his four runs to date and he is unexposed and enters handicaps off what looks a fair mark. With his yard in form he is worth a cautionary look in the market. However, we are happy to return to Lancier d'Estruval to lead them home.
