In depth

Verdict

Mr Ed should have the class to make a winning chase debut here, with Heather Lad and Glenfolan seen as his main rivals. Mr Ed raced off a mark of 148 on his last outing over hurdles at Haydock, finishing second to Mr Cool, and so the time has come to try him over the bigger obstacles. Peter Bowen's seven-year-old had by far the best form over timber, including a win in a valuable contest at Newton Abbot last August, and as long as he jumps well enough, victory should be a formality. Heather Lad is more experienced over fences but does not have the class of the selection, and Glenfolan lines up on the back of a win between the flags at Punchestown in March. His shrewd trainer has enlisted the help of Tony Dobbin, and he can certainly prove best of the Irish contingent here, but there can only be one winner if he stays upright, and that is Mr Ed.
