Cesar Du Gouet was hardly foot-perfect when landing the odds against two rivals at Huntingdon and is giving weight to a real course specialist in WELCOME BEN (NAP). Jackie Stephen’s charge has been excellent form since returning from a lay-off and may be capable of defying a 9lb rise. Old Salt was in good form at Musselburgh in February but hasn’t run since. Paul Flynn’s Roachdale House is preferred to Witness In Court of the others.
Cesar Du Gouet (FR) 8-13fav (11-12) Made all, mistake 3 out, clear next, well in command when ridden out after last, comfortably, won at Huntingdon 2m hcp (4) gd in May beating Opechee (10-5) by 24l, 3 ran.
Welcome Ben (IRE) 8-1 (11-0) Chased leader and clear of remainder, led 3 out, drew clear next, easily, won at Ayr 2m 4f hcp (3) gd in May beating Blakerigg (11-10) by 11l, 8 ran.
Roachdale House (IRE) 20-1 (11-12) Close up, a little slow at 1st, 6th from 4th, not fluent and unseated rider 5 out, at Clonmel 2m gd in Jun.
Witness In Court (IRE) 8-1 (12-0) Prominent, blundered 7th, challenged 2 out, outpaced before last, weakened flat, 6th of 14, 11 1/4l behind Downbythestrand (11-10) at Stratford 2m 1f (5) gd in May.
Old Salt (IRE) 5-2 (11-11) Tracked leader, led before 5th until next, chased leader, led again before 4 out, hit 2 out, stayed on gamely run-in, won at Musselburgh 2m 4f hcp (4) gd in Feb beating The Road Home (11-12) by 2 1/2l, 6 ran.
