This looks quite a hot little maiden for the track with the likes of Tamarillo and Negwa, but a chance is take with the newcomer Couplet, who runs here in preference to three other engagements this week. The filly is a half-sister to juvenile winner Aston Mara, as well as middle-distance winner Motto, so there is no doubt about her staying this trip. She may have most to fear from another debutante Alaloof, who is from the same family as top-class miler Shadayid. Tamarillo sets a fairly decent standard for the newcomers as her second to Lucky Pipit received a boost when the latter went on to win a Listed contest next time. As she is out of a mare that stayed two-miles and comes from the same family as the high-class stayer Royal Gait, she will certainly stay every yard of this trip. She has the edge in experience and it will take an act of God to keep her out of the frame. Negwa is quite stoutly bred and will appreciate this stiffer test having found Ascot's six-furlongs an inadequate test, while Just A Promise and Doctrine are others to consider. The latter, a January foal, is from the same family as the high-class middle-distance performer Sacrement and is sure to be much better suited to this trip rather than the sharp six-furlongs at Goodwood, but in what looks a really hot maiden Couplet gets the vote.
