It may not be original, but it could be profitable, to side with the Sir Michael Stoute-trained newcomer Line Ahead, who is selected over Dash To The Top, Sideshow and Creme De La Creme, who also hail from top yards that merit the utmost respect. Michael Bell, who won this race last year, is another trainer that is worth bearing in mind. But his two runners have not shown anything out of the ordinary up to press and they are passed over. A lack of fancy entries for either Sideshow or Creme De La Creme also creates the impression that David Loder will have to play a patient game with his two against the field. However, both have appealing pedigrees and it will be no surprise if either made the frame. The step up in trip will aid Night Of Joy, who showed that she was getting the hang of things last time. However, she will do better in handicaps and is another to leave alone for win only purposes. Dash To The Top, like the selection, has the Fillies Mile on her agenda and, considering the record of Montjeu's progeny this term, has to be feared the most at this stage. That said, her trainer's younger horses tend to come on from their first start and she is reluctantly left alone. Which leaves Line Ahead, who can add a further boost to Ballymacoll Stud at the first time of asking. The fact that her breeders have retained ownership is a big clue as to the regard she is held in and we take the stance that a speculative play on the daughter of Sadler's Wells can reap the best dividend tonight.
