A small turnout for this Novice Stakes and preference is for Kings Troop ahead of Pergamon. Despite having to give weight to his rivals, Henry Cecil's son of Bertolini is proven on a soft surface. He shaped last time as if he wanted a longer trip and more of a stamina test, and today he gets it and today he should win. Pergamon was well-fancied on debut but could only manage third; today's longer trip will be in his favour and this well-related colt should run well. Crackdown steps up two furlongs in trip which should suit on breeding but it is a fair leap for a two-year-old, whilst Canwin completes the field but seems to have made the bronze medal his own in three starts and will do well to better it here. A tight contest, but Kings Troop looks the way forward.
