Verdict

A chance is taken with Double Carpet ahead of Registrar and Kingsmaite. The selection is 2lbs higher than when last successful but he has been running well enough of late to suggest that he may be able to add to his sole success. On his latest start at Hamilton over 5 furlongs he won the race on his side but failed to reach the leading pack on the other side of the track. This extra furlong will suit and he should handle the ground. Kingsmaite has been in rude health this winter and wasn't winning out of turn last time. As such, he deserves his place on the short-list but he has always been better suited by the demands of the all-weather than he has turf. Registrar won over 5 furlongs here last November and is entitled to have come on for his reappearance here last month. He should have no problems with this longer trip and can be expected to be in the mix but our vote is awarded to Double Carpet.
