In depth
Verdict
Bees River was well held on heavy ground at Ayr last month and the Alan Jarvis-trained filly looks best watched on her first start since then so a safer option looks to be FITZ FLYER, who gets the vote with Joe Caster rated the best of the rest. The selection sets a decent standard here having run well in all four starts, including on soft ground, and he should not be inconvenienced by the drop back to the minimum trip. Tom Dascombe's Belated Silver was sent off a well backed favourite for his debut at Bath but disappointed; however, the colt ran better at Warwick last time and could be of interest dropped to five furlongs and racing on soft ground for the first time. Simon Callaghan's Rare Art was well held on his Great Leighs debut and may do better now on turf for the first time but a bigger threat is likely to come from Joe Caster. James Eustace's colt lost no caste in defeat behind Art Connoisseur on his debut on a soft surface but could not reproduce the form on faster ground at Yarmouth on his second outing. He should do better back on more testing ground today but it is hard to get away from Fitz Flyer, who is taken to open his account.
