Royal Citadel is open to more improvement than most and gets the nod over Leamington Lad and Neardown Beauty. The last named made an encouraging reappearance at Brighton in April and ran respectably in her only subsequent start. The softer ground is in her favour today and she could prove to be the surprise package in this company. Leamington Lad is in great heart and has to be respected in his current frame of mind. The drop to seven furlongs is not an issue for the Beckett colt and it is hard to envisage him finishing out of the frame. However, a mark of 69 is far from restricting for Royal Citadel on her handicap debut and we fancy that she will be very hard to master if she is set alight by the fitting of a visor for the first time in public. Philip Robinson taking the ride is another positive beside her name as tactics are sure to play a part in the outcome.
