        Verdict

        Castle Howard gets the call here ahead of Active Asset and Very Agreeable. Castle Howard ended last season with a very good fourth in the November Handicap. From a three-pounds higher mark and with a more experienced rider on board, he can go well today. Mick Quinn keeps getting improvement out of Active Asset who comes here on the back of a staying-on effort at Windsor. He too can go well. Rayhani and Topjeu maybe have it to prove from their current marks, we feel. Irish import Magicalmysterytour is at least beginning the new campaign on a more reasonable mark than when in Ireland. Very Agreeable ran respectably on her seasonal return over a shorter trip and looks set to build on that here. Interestingly, she is closely-weighted with Topjeu based on 2006 maiden form. Spell Casting is another to have something to prove, we feel, while Mustajed has not won since 2005 and Art Modern , who would hold a chance on his best all-weather form, has been beaten in Turf handicaps from today's mark in his last two runs. All of which returns us to the selection, which is Castle Howard.
