In depth

Verdict

John Chard VC will have needed his run at Goodwood but is not certain to appreciate a step up in trip on pedigree. ISLAND STAR is more likely to improve again for the extra quarter-mile and he’s done nothing wrong in a couple of runs in handicaps since landing a Kempton maiden in April. He’s just preferred to the Goodwood novice winner Never Ending, who was second to a useful filly on the Rowley Mile here on her return to action. Feud was hampered at Redcar last month so shouldn’t be written off just yet while Golspie is another who still has time on his side. Greysful Storm won easily at Newbury but this looks a much tougher assignment.
