In depth

Verdict

Shevchenko has arguably the best form on offer here but Jeremy Noseda's colt has twice been a beaten favourite and he may be worth taking on again with a chance being given to Calculating, who gets the vote over Snaafy. The last mentioned was not given a hard time on his debut as a juvenile and, with improvement to come this season, the Barry Hills-trained colt has to be respected. Hartmann makes more appeal than Getrah and Velocitys Gift among the newcomers, while Wolf River has shown some promise in his two starts but would probably need to improve considerably to win this. Calculating only beat one home on his debut here last autumn but is surely better than that run would suggest and with John Gosden's team having made a smart start to the current campaign, he may be worth a bet.
