In depth

Verdict

A chance is taken with Fictional, who is selected over Tony The Tap, Intriguing Glimpse and Whistler. The last named can never be ruled out in these sort of races and, with Milton Bradley's string continuing to fire, he again holds sound place claims here. Intriguing Glimpse also fits that profile, as he is holding his form well at present. However, he has never won on turf from a mark this high before and others may have his measure near the finish. Tony The Tap is also capable on his day and should make a bold bid to enhance his solid record at this track. The July course almost brings the best out of him and he too is capable of hitting the frame. Another that has to be mentioned is Polish Emperor, who comes here after a confidence boosting effort at Sandown last time out. However, he may struggle from a 5lb higher mark and needs to pull something out of the fire here. Therefore, we take sides with Fictional, who has dropped several hints that he is on the way back lately. Ed McMahon's charge is open to a fair bit more improvement than most and looks the percentage call in a tricky race.
