Nonrunner
Another competitive heat where ELECTIONEER is selected to get the better of Radio City and Royal Blade. All three short-listed runners came home in front last time and Mark Johnston's runner is preferred mainly because he is probably open to greater improvement. The Elusive Quality colt still showed signs of greenness at Beverley before being good enough to overcome that and score by over a length, and he is going very much the right way. This is tougher but he can find enough. Radio City is 5lbs higher than when winning a Brighton handicap by just a short head and while he too is progressing he might just come up short with that extra burden to shoulder. Royal Blade kept on well to take a Windsor maiden and steps into handicaps on a mark of 73, which gives him a clear chance of getting involved once again. Mahiki won a couple of Southwell contests over the minimum trip last month but has yet to prove she is as effective on turf, while Mister Hughie will find this much tougher than the seller he won last time. Mijas Playa will prefer this faster ground than at Thirsk and a return to form would make her a major player, but Electioneer gets the vote.
