A really interesting opener to the day with CORSICA taken to make the most of an 18lbs pull with Harris Tweed and reverse placings, while Prizefighting can emerge next best. Our selection face what turned out to be a near-impossible task when attempting to give his reopposing rival 18lbs in the most valuable race on Musselburgh's calendar last time out. That was over 1m 4f on fast ground, with the only difference today being a further furlong. Despite the progressive profile of the William Haggas-trained runner he still has to find another 9lbs here if official figures can be trusted and is taken on. Prizefighting is not beyond improvement after just five starts and especially with blinkers applied for the first time. He went well in a Chantilly Group 3 last time but conditions were soft then and they look to be against him today. Simenon is not certain to see out this longer trip now stepped up from 10f, and a bigger danger appears to be Very Good Day. Mick Channon won this four years ago with Youmzain, so he knows what type of horse it takes, and he confirmed the promise of his Goodwood run behind Rewilding with a Haydock maiden success last time. He is very much respected, though preference is for Corsica.
