In depth

Verdict

La Bella Grande is a tentative pick ahead of William Tell, Stay Close, Heathwood and Sunny Times to name but four. Another hard one to call and so only a small bet is recommended on La Bella Grande, who belied her starting price of 40-1 when staying on in third behind Tahrir over seven furlongs here on her return last month. The daughter of Giant's Causeway will appreciate the extra furlong, and is not badly treated on this, her handicap debut. William Tell opened his account over Ticki Tori at Southwell recently, and the latter ran well subsequently at Newcastle. Stay Close either needed the run or did not respond to the first-time blinkers when beaten on his Turf bow at Beverley, but this dual all-weather winner now has the assistance of Kieren Fallon, so will be popular despite his weight. Heathwood was disappointing at Windsor, given his earlier success on the Polytrack, while Sunny Times was beaten in a photo at Lingfield but that was in claiming company, and so for the winner we return to the one that perhaps has the most potential in the shape of La Bella Grande.
