There are lots of duck-eggs on show here, so many of the line-up can be discounted, with only Raoul Dufy, Earlston and our selection Haile Selassie making any appeal in a moderate contest. Barry Hills does not normally waste his trips to Newcastle so Haile Selassie, a beaten favourite at Warwick, is taken to make amends. He was not beaten far on that occasion and based on his four juvenile runs, will improve, with a mile appearing to be his optimum trip. In truth this is not a strong contest and he will not have a better chance, at this stage of the season of breaking his duck. Raoul Dufy looks best of the rest, having run with promise on a number of occasions, including a career best effort at Southwell last time. The suspicion is though that he is better on the fibresand, so it will be a bit of a surprise if he actually beats Haille Selassie. Commitment Lecture, Tiber Tiger and Earlston should get a mention as well.
