In a race where there is little to form to work on, bets should be kept to a minimum, but TRADING NATION looks to have a good chance of getting off the mark, with New Leyf and Eyes Like a Hawk, the main opponents. Breeding suggests Eyes Like A Hawk may prefer longer distances, but this daughter of Diktat showed speed on her debut, where she was backed down to be a short priced favourite. She faded badly that day and did not re-appear last season. With the Tom Dascombe string in fine form-he took the Hilary Needler Trophy at Beverley on Wednesday, Eyes Like a Hawk is respected. At 58,000 guineas, New Leyf is one of the more expensive purchases in the field. He is related to a multiple winning sprinter and shaped encouragingly in a decent Doncaster maiden, doing his best work at the finish. Trading Nation is bred for the job, being a half-brother to six winners, including the useful Fifteen Love and he ran well last time to be a staying on second in a big field. That was his second outing and his experience can be used to good effect. Trading Nation can prove good enough.
