In depth

Verdict

Catspraddle ran too badly to be true in a Group 3 race at Ayr last month and may be worth another chance in this company with Musical Guest and Duelling rated the best of the remainder. The selection had created a favourable impression when making a winning debut at Windsor on a soft surface and ran too badly to be true at Ayr last time. Top weight Wovoka has shown a liking for cut in the ground and is entitled to be thereabouts but is probably a shade high in the handicap at present, while Trafalgar Bay has yet to prove his effectiveness on ground this soft. Hotham may be open to improvement but the yard of Henry Candy has been quiet all season so he is best watched and of more interest may be Musical Guest, who has had plenty of racing but is proven with cut in the ground. Duelling is lightly raced and cannot be discounted but a better bet looks to be Catspraddle and he gets the vote in the hope that the Ayr run was not his true showing.
