Verdict

A tricky renewal with none of the contestants ticking all the boxes. Last year's St Leger hero Arctic Cosmos went to pieces after a pleasing reappearance win at Kempton and it's hard to know what to expect on his first start since May. Coquet had also been progressing well but never figured in the Oaks at Epsom or the Yorkshire Oaks last time while winning handicapper Black Spirit has come unstuck in previous starts at this level. Lay Time was all out to win a Group 3 in soft ground at Windsor last month but she's at least going the right way, though it could be worth sticking with CAMERON HIGHLAND. He won a Listed race on the same card at Windsor and, although this is tougher, scored by over four lengths. There looks more to come from Roger Varian's colt.
