Verdict

A conditions race that always used to carry a bit of prestige, though it’s almost 20 years since Nayef Road’s near-namesake Nayef won en route to Group 1 glory. Mark Johnston’s colt is the most experienced of these but has to concede weight all round and may be found wanting. DUCKETT’S GROVE beat a Ballydoyle hot-pot on the bridle at Cork when trained by Emmet Mullins. The second franked the form next time and the Point Of Entry colt still has an entry in next month’s Group 1 Futurity at Doncaster – his new trainer won this as recently as 2015. Beat Le Bon was only beaten a head over 7f here on debut in July but the winner was turned over by Palavecino at Ffos Las last month, though was conceding 7lb. Raakib Alhawa cost €140,000 and is by Kingman and wouldn’t be making his debut in a race like this unless he’d been showing something at home. Dashing Willoughby belied odds of 25/1 at Wolverhampton but this is a much tougher assignment.
